Man Ray is a legend. A tireless experimenter with photographic techniques who co-founded the Dadaist and Surrealist Art movements, he also created a new photographic art that emphasized chance effects and surprising juxtapositions. This superb collection of avant-garde still lifes, surrealist portraits, and camera-less prints or "rayographs" from the 20's and 30's is evidence of his dazzling innovation. Taken together, his photographs extended our awareness and means of expression, laid the groundwork for today's multi-media techniques, and made him one of the most admired artists of the twentieth century.
